Motocross / Scrambles new_nBanner_rt

Currently, Chelmsford & DAC endeavour to run two motocross/scrambles meetings per year, one in the early/mid season and another towards the end of the season. Generally we include several championships at our meetings including rounds of the NGR Championship and the Eastern Centre Solo (expert and junior). Sadly, the Sidecarcross following has diminished to the stage where it is hardly worth including sidecars at any time. However, for 2006 a new championship has been introduced for Quads and we shall also be including a round at our second meeting of the year.

At a typical meeting we try, and generally succeed (providing it is allowed for in the Championship rules if the meeting is a Championship round), in giving ALL competitors either a minimum of four races or alternatively, three races of longer duration as well as the mandatory practice. Although a minimum of two practice laps are compulsory, riders are generally given some ten minutes of practice – enough for somewhat more than the required two laps.

Unless there is a laid down duration for races such as those comprising championship rounds, riders are generally given twelve minutes plus a lap although the the club reserves the right to change this format. However, strenuous efforts will be made to ensure that riders get a good days sport with as much participation as possible. Please note though, that the duration of championship races are defined by the Eastern Centre Competitions Committee in the appropriate championship rules.

Our motocross events are held at Claydons Farm at East Hanningfield. This is farm land incorporating a hill and plenty of undulations. Unfortunately it is not always possible to grade the track as it is used by the farmer to graze his cattle and, as is his right, he also allows local horse owners the use of the land for keeping their horses. As a result, and particularly during times of heavy rain, the field is very much at risk of hoof marks appearing in deepish mud which, of course, remain when it dries out. This in turn causes the track to be quite lumpy which is not always popular with riders. However, there is little we can do about it since the farmer is perfectly entitled to use his land as he wishes.

Some years ago, the club moved to a later first event which now generally takes place sometime in May. This makes it much more likely we will be able to run our first scheduled event of the year. In the past, we have been allocated much too early a date for our first event and this has resulted in having to cancel the event at the last minute. This has been due entirely to adverse weather conditions making it virtually impossible to firstly get into the field and then out again at the end of the day. We have now managed to get approval from the farmer to lay hard core along the main route into the field (approximately 100 yards). Nevertheless, in spite of the problems getting into and out of the field, we have been able to run some very successful events with all riders normally having the opportunity for at least four races or three races of longer duration.
