General Membership Information
Chelmsford & DAC aims to cater for people interested in all aspects of motorcycling but primarily in the disciplines of motocross/scrambles and trials whether as competitor, organiser and/or spectator. During any one year, the club generally organises a minimum of two motocross/scrambles events and five trials. From time to time, although land is not currently available, the club reserves the right to consider other types of events such as enduros and grass tracks and the Committee welcomes any suggestions in this respect.

The club has a number of membership options available and where mailings are sent out, are inclusive of all postage (many clubs require their members to submit SAEs for their mailings). However, since lady and junior members do not automatically qualify for mailings, where they are the only ones in the house receiving such mailings, an extra sum is required to cover the mailing costs.

All members may receive a copy of the Eastern Centre Gazette although this is at an extra cost of £9.00 per year. Since the Gazette contains entry forms for all events of Centre Restricted status and above, if a member expects to ride in such events, he/she is advised to take the Gazette.

All members wishing to ride motocross, enduro or grass track events must purchase a Competition Licence from the ACU. As from January 2008, this costs £43.00 which includes a £10.00 fee for affiliation to the ACU (what is this). Anyone wishing to ride trials must be registered as a trials rider and be affiliated to the ACU, this being at a cost of £10. If you wish to ride Motocross AND Trials then only the single licence will be required but you MUST indicate that you wish to register as a trials rider on the licence before you send it to the ACU. These are annual payments and must therefore renewed annually. Applications for both licences and affiliations are made using a Licence Application Form. However, please note that licence applications and renewals must be signed and stamped by the club Secretary (Susan Thorpe), the Membership Secretary (Tracey Woodmason) or Chairman (Albert Brace). Licences, trials registrations, affiliations run from 1st January to 31st December of each year and renewal forms should be received from the ACU any time from early November onwards.

If you are are applying for a new licence, trials registration and affiliation, then you will be required to include a passport sized photo with the application. Thereafter, renewals will only require the form as the same photo will be printed on subsequent licences, trials registration or affiliation cards which are a different colour each year. Before sending the photo off to the ACU please ensure you print you name and date of birth of the rear.

Club membership renewal forms are sent out with the December mailing and those wishing to renew should complete the form as appropriate and send it (with their Licence Application Form if applicable (and a passport sized photo, if applicable)) with their membership fee, to the Membership Secretary (Tracey Woodmason) who will sign and stamp the licence application and send it to the ACU. Usually, members will receive their licence/affiliation card within ten days although this cannot be guaranteed as it depends on workload, particularly in the first few months of the year. Please enclose a SAE with the licence form for forwarding it to the ACU. For new members or those who have mislaid their renewal form, Licence Application Forms are available from the Membership Secretary so please ask if you plan to ride, whatever the discipline.

For those who compete in trials, although a Competitions Licence is not required, an extra sum (currently £1.60 per trial) is added to the entry fee of all trials entered which is then forwarded after the trial to the local ACU Centre, in our case the Eastern Centre. However, all trials riders must be affiliated (see above) – your insurance will be invalid if you are not affiliated.

Please also call the Membership Secretary on 01245 466815 for any further information you may require or for membership/ licence/ affiliation forms or click here to email your query/requirements to her.

To download a club membership application form please click the link at the top of this page. Please note that this is in PDF format and you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader (a free program) in order to open and print the application form. If you require Acrobat Reader you may download the latest version from the Adobe web site by clicking the Adobe image at the top left of this page. However, be aware that it may be a huge download for those still using a ordinary modem. For those on Broadband however, there should be no problem. The download for the latest version of Acrobat Reader (for WindowsXP) is approximately 23.5Mb - the download for other operating systems may be a little smaller but is unlikely to be significantly different! Alternatively Acrobat Reader may be readily available from other sources. For information on this as well as further information about Acrobat Reader and .PDF files, click the image at the top right of this page.
