This page is for visitors to this site who are new to off-road motorcycling and we trust it will provide information on the position of the club within the ACU. It is, of necessity, a very brief resumé of the general operation of the club within the ACU and where the member stands in relation to the events he/she can ride/enter.
As a club affiliated to the ACU at Rugby, we are members of the local ACU centre of which there are 20 nationwide. In our particular case, the club is affiliated via the Eastern Centre of the ACU which essentially comprises Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk. All ACU licensed officials and all riders without exception must be affiliated to the ACU in order to ride in ACU organised events. Once you become a member of an Eastern Centre affiliated club, including Chelmsford and DAC, you can ride in any event open to members of centre clubs. The regulations for the different types of events define the clubs whose members can enter - but how do you find out what events are being held?
Until the end of 2007, the club produced a monthly magazine, Chainletter in which was published a calendar of events for the current month and the following month. However, at the start of 2008, this was reduced to an occasional magazine. As a result, the club member will need to refer to the Fixtures page of this web site, the Eastern Centre Gazette or the Eastern Centre Website. A fixture list is published by the Eastern centre each January and sufficient copies are obtained to send each member a copy which is contained in the centre of the Eastern centre Handbook. However, this fixture list is liable to change and from experience, can be guaranteed to change from the published list. It is therefore recommended that reference is made to the Eastern Centre Gazette or the Eastern centre website (the fixture pages on this website will reflect the published fixtures at the beginning of each year)..
An Eastern Centre Gazette is produced every month which includes entry forms and regulations (otherwise known as ‘regs’) as well as other general information and articles relevant to the Eastern Centre. This is really an essential publication for those wishing to ride in centre or regional level events, for the published regs alone if for no other reason as these are the only officially accepted methods of entering events.
For anyone interested in riding trials in the Essex area in the summer, there is a series of trials which are intended for those new to the sport or for those returning to trials after a long layoff; those wishing to keep in practice also enter these events as well. They are normally run as Restricted Invitation trials, all being "enter on the day", normally with reduced entry fees and held on Saturday evenings between the beginning of May and mid-August. Up to twelve such events may be run by just four clubs, these being Southend, Chelmsford, Dunmow and Braintree.
As explained above, this is just a brief resumé of how things work and I would not be surprised if you have questions which have not been answered above. If you do have such questions, then please contact us by email, phone or fax and we will do our best to assist. Please click here for the contact page.
